ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1. Today, Monday, 11 Rabiulawal 1443 / 18 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that three COVID-19 confirmed case have returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.
2. One of them, a 68-year-old man was confirmed as death due to COVID-19 while the other two, a 67-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman also suffered from some other health problems and are not categorized as death due to COVID-19.
3. In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the cases’ families and pray their souls will receive blessings and are placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

4. A total of one hundred and eighty-seven (187) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 11,047.
- There are 30 additional new cases to 12 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
- Meanwhile, one new cluster have been detected that involved 3 cases which are accommodation clusters.
- Two clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are 4401 Cluster and 4772 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 169 clusters.
- Meanwhile, 154 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
5. One hundred and ninety-seven (197) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 8,242 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,728 cases.
6. Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, five cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases require the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, thirty (30) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.
7. In the past 24 hours, a total of 2,872 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 444,925 tests.
8. On 17 October 2021, a total of 1,676 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 342,509 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 75.5% from the total population. Meanwhile, 231,732 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 51.1% from the total population.
9. One of the developments under the National Vaccination Programme that has been mentioned several times in this press conference is about the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine to adolescents aged 12 to 17 years. In direction to this, the Ministry of Health is actively making preparations with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to implement the vaccination of adolescents in this age group as soon as the supply of the COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrives in the country at a later date. The COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Committee at the Ministry of Health has approved the use of this vaccine for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years based on detailed research and evaluation, and considering the aspects of safety, efficacy and quality. The Ministry of Health is working to ensure that the supply of this vaccine arrives in the country as soon as possible. Vaccination is the most effective measure to protect yourself, loved ones, and even the surrounding community from the harmful effects of COVID-19. Therefore, the concern and cooperation of parents and guardians are needed to protect the children and the whole family.
10. Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 PM until 4 AM this morning, a total of 12 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 9 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.
