MEDIA STATEMENT
ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.               Today, Sunday, 10 Safar 1443 / 17 October 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that six COVID-19 confirmed case have returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 
2.             Five of them, that is 3 men aged 49, 63 and 61 years old, as well as 2 women aged 58 and 73 years old, were confirmed as death due to COVID-19; whereas 1 woman aged 62 years old suffered from several other health problems and is not categorised as death due to COVID-19.

 
3.             In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to the cases’ families and pray their souls will receive blessings and are placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

4.             A total of five hundred and four (504) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 10,860.

  1. There are 208 additional new cases to 30 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, four new clusters have been detected that involved 93 cases. All of the new clusters are accommodation clusters where three of it, that is, Jalan Kota Batu Construction Cluster, Trentset Construction Sdn Bhd, and Bato Apoi Construction Cluster are housing clusters that accommodate the companies’ employees.
  3. Three clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are 2629 Cluster, 3892 Cluster and 4812 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 170 clusters.
  4. Meanwhile, 203 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

 
5.             One hundred and ninety-five (195) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 8,045 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,741 cases.

 
6.             Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, seven cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with one case requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-nine (29) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

 
7.              In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,657 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 442,053 tests.
 

8.             On 16 October 2021, a total of 8022 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 341,702 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 75.3% from the total population. Meanwhile, 230,863 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 50.9% from the total population.
 

9.             The Ministry of Health would like to inform that the Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic services will be conducted as follows:

  1. Lamunin Health Centre, Tutong for three days commencing tomorrow, Monday 18 October 2021; Wednesday 20 October 2021; and Thursday 21 October 2021 from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm, especially for residents of Mukim Lamunin and its surroundings.
  2. Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Health Centre, Kampung Sungai Asam on Friday, 22 October 2021 and Sunday, 24 October 2021 from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm, especially for residents of Kampung Ayer and its surroundings. Meanwhile, the vaccination services to houses will be conducted on Saturday, 23 October 2021 according to the list provided by the Village Head.
  3. The local community who wish to get the COVID-19 vaccination can come directly by walk-in by bringing along their identification card/passport as well as BruHIMS card (or number), if available. For those who are unable to attend on their own to the aforementioned health centres due to health problems or limited movement, they can register or be registered through the Village Head for vaccination arrangements at their respective homes.

 

10.          Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 PM until 4 AM this morning, a total of 16 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 12 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.

 
11.            Since the commencement of the Home Isolation Policy for COVID-19 patients on 8 October 2021, 507 patients in Category 1 and Category 2a are currently undergoing their self-isolation at homes. The Ministry of Health would like to remind all patients to comply with the directives of the self-isolation at home and provide cooperation to the Ministry of Health when contacted. Monitoring of patients such as through telephone calls are for the Ministry of Health to ensure that patients are in good condition and the symptoms of their infection do not worsen. Permission to undergo self-isolation at home will be revoked for anyone found not cooperating during the monitoring and they will be taken to isolation centres.
