MEDIA STATEMENT
ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

1.               Today, Saturday, 09 Rabiulawal 1443 / 16 October 2021, a total of one hundred and five (105) new cases of COVID-19 infections have been confirmed bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 10,356.

  1. There are 22 additional new cases to 8 of the existing active clusters who were previously close contacts with several positive cases.
  2. Meanwhile, two new clusters have been detected that involved 39 cases. Both of the new clusters are housing clusters that accommodate the companies’ employees namely SWWC Sdn Bhd Cluster and Simla Sdn Bhd Cluster.
  3. Three clusters have been closed following no new detected cases in the clusters for 28 days. The closed clusters are Jaya Hypermart Cluster, 1328 Cluster and 2417 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 169 clusters.
  4. In addition, there are 3 import cases recorded today where all three cases arrived in Brunei Darussalam from Manila via Singapore on board Singapore Airline SQ 146 on 03 October 2021.
  5. Meanwhile, 41 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

 
2.             One hundred and sixty-eight (168) cases have recovered today bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 7,850 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,438 cases.

 
3.             Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, eight cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-seven (27) cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.

 
4.             In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,193 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 436,396 tests.
 

5.             On 15 October 2021, a total of 848 individuals have received the COVID-19 vaccine injection. This means that, under the National Vaccination Programme, a total of 340,018 individuals have received the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 75.0% from the total population. Meanwhile, 224,525 individuals have completed the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine which is 49.5% from the total population.
 

6.             In addition, the Ministry of Health would like to inform that the Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic services will be conducted at Kampung Menunggol tomorrow, Sunday 17 October 2021, at the Kampung Menunggol Mosque from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm, especially for residents of Kampung Menunggol. The local community there who wish to get the COVID-19 vaccination can come directly by walk-in by bringing along their identification card/passport as well as BruHIMS card (or number), if available. For those who are unable to attend on their own to the Kampung Menunggol Mosque due to health problems or limited movement, they can register or be registered through the Head Village for vaccination arrangements at their respective homes.

 
7.              Meanwhile, outcome from the multi-agencies enforcement monitoring that was carried out last night during the out-of-house restriction from 8 PM until 4 AM this morning, a total of 19 violations of the directive nationwide were issued with compound fines, where 15 of them are violations of the out-of-house restriction.

 
8.             Let us all pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala that the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam will be protected and spared from all harms and diseases especially from the COVID-19 pandemic. Aamiin Aamiin Ya Rabbalalamin. Thank you.
