ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

28 Muharram 1443 / 06 September 2021

 

1.          Today, Sunday, 28 Muharram 1443 / 06 September 2021, by the will of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and with a heavy heart, the Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that one COVID-19 confirmed case has returned to the grace and mercy of Allah.

 

2.          The first case was Case 1521, who was a 44-year-old woman. This case suffered from lung infection after being infected with COVID-19.

 

3.          In light of this, in order to protect and respect the privacy as well as confidentiality of the case’s family, the Ministry of Health will not share her personal details. Members of the public are also requested to respect and not disseminate information relating to the case.

 

4.          In this opportunity, myself representing the Ministry of Health as well as the people of Brunei Darussalam, would like to express our deepest condolences to her family and pray her soul will receive blessings from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’Ala and is placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah.

5.          The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, one hundred and thirty-five (135) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,464.

  • Today, there is one new cluster detected bringing the total number of active clusters to 52 clusters. The new cluster contains 45 cases, including cases that were previously reported as cases for which the source of infection has not been identified. This cluster is now known as Rimba Point Cluster.
  • There are 35 additional new cases to 13 of the existing active clusters. The cases in these active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
  • Meanwhile, 57 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

6.          Two hundred and sixty-three (263) cases have recovered today, where this total includes 204 positive cases from Category 1 that have undergone self-isolation for 14 days at their respective homes. All of them have undergone second swab tests at Day 12 and have been confirmed recovered. With that, the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam has increased to 1,871 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 1,574 cases.

 

7.          Among the active cases, eight cases are in critical condition, where seven cases require assistance of artificial ventilation. Meanwhile, one more case yesterday who is in Category 5 required the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO), which now brings to a total of two cases requiring the assistance of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-seven (27) cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.

 

8.          In the past 24 hours, a total of 2,472 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 252,161 tests.

 

9.          As previously announced during the Ministry of Health’s Press Conference on 26 August 2021 on the types of Antigen Rapid Test (ART) test kits that have been approved for use in Brunei Darussalam, the Ministry of Health has updated the list with few additional types of Antigen Rapid Test (ART) test kits, which to date, 9 types of the test kits have been approved as shown on the screen. This updated list is also made available on the Ministry of Health’s website.

 

10.      Lastly, may Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala preserve and protect Brunei Darussalam and all its citizens and residents from all dangers, disasters and infectious diseases especially COVID-19.
