ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19
IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
13 Muharram 1443 / 22 August 2021
1. The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, Sunday, 13 Muharram 1443 / 22 August 2021, three hundred and fourteen (314) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 1,769.
2. This increase includes 218 new cases of outstanding laboratory tests, whereas 96 cases are from tests conducted by the Laboratory Services Department in the last 24 hours.
3. For the 314 new cases,
- Additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:
- 34 cases for Chung Hua KB Cluster;
- 21 cases for Immigration Cluster;
- The Champion 7 and surrounding vessels are as follows:
- 17 cases for Cluster Champion 7 – BT; and
- 2 cases for Cluster Champion 7 – Platform;
- 14 cases for the BSP HQ Cluster (Block M);
- 12 cases for Al-Falah/Freda-Radin Cluster;
- 10 cases for ABCi Cluster;
- 9 cases for IBTE KB Cluster;
- 9 cases for The Mall Cluster;
- 5 cases for Total Cluster;
- 3 cases for SKH Cluster;
- 2 cases for 477 Cluster;
- 1 case for Dragon Boat Cluster;
- 1 case for 583 Cluster; and
- 1 case for PA Cluster.
- Meanwhile, 4 new clusters have been identified:
- 17 new cases are related to Case 1056 that was reported on 19 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the Samima Cluster.
- 5 new cases are related to Case 1328 that was reported on 20 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the 1328 Cluster.
- 3 new cases are related to few previous cases including Case 650 that was reported on 15 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the Jaya Hypermart Cluster.
- 1 new case is related to Case 362 that was reported on 8 August 2021 and Case 415 that was reported on 10 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the 362 Cluster.
- In addition, there are 6 import cases recorded today:
- One case arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 09 August 2021 on board flight Singapore Airlines SQ148 from Thailand.
- One case arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 09 August 2021 on board flight Singapore Airlines SQ148 from Netherlands.
- Meanwhile four cases arrived in Brunei Darussalam on 09 August 2021 on board Royal Brunei BI004 from the United Kingdom.
- Meanwhile, there are 141 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.
- The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.
- Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.
4. Meanwhile, sixty-four (64) cases have recovered today bringing the total of recovered cases to 419 cases. This means, a total of 1,346 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.
5. Among the active cases, four cases are in critical condition, where three cases require ventilators and one case requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, twenty-one (21) cases have been admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
6. In the past 24 hours, a total of 5,450 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 201,057 tests.
7. Meanwhile, to increase the swab tests capacity for SARS-CoV-2, a Swab Centre that uses a Drive-Thru approach will start operating on Monday, 23 August 2021. This Swab Centre that is located at Bridex Jerudong will operate as follow:
- Only two (2) persons are permitted to get the swab tests in one vehicle (i.e. one driver and one passenger);
- Only one booking is required for each vehicle;
- This service will only be provided to passengers aged 12 years above;
- This service is only for driver and passenger who possess a valid BruHIMS registration number;
- For driver and passenger who have BruHealth codes with colours Green and Yellow, they must not have any signs of influenza infection such as cough, runny nose, fever and sore throat
- In addition, this Swab Centre can also accept those who have a Red BruHealth code colour, that is, those who are instructed to undergo swab test.
- The service in this Swab Centre is not for any individual that requires a swab test for the purpose of exiting the country or pre-departure swab. Swab test for the purpose of exiting the country or pre-departure swab can be obtained at other swab centres as per usual.
This Drive-Thru Swab Centre will operate every Monday to Thursday and Saturday, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
8. On this occasion, let us all pray that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala will grant us strength, perseverance and fortitude to all frontliners so that they can continue to fight and serve for the nation.
