ON THE CURRENT SITUATION OF COVID-19

IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

07 Muharram 1443 / 16 August 2021

 

1.          The Ministry of Health would like to announce that today, Monday, 07 Muharram 1443 / 16 August 2021, sixty-four (64) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 787.

  • Additional cases to currently active clusters are as follows:
    • 10 cases for Semporna Enak Cluster;
    • 10 cases for the Chung Hua Cluster;
    • 4 cases for ABCi Cluster;
    • 4 cases for Champion 7 Cluster;
    • 3 cases for BSP HQ Cluster;
    • 2 cases for Al-Falah/Freda Radin Cluster;
    • 1 case for 477 Cluster; and
    • 1 case for IBTE KB Cluster.

 

  • Meanwhile, 2 new clusters have been identified:
    • 2 new cases (Case 765 and 766) are related to Case 635 that was reported on 13 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the 635 Cluster (in reference to Case 635).
    • 2 new cases (Case 774 and 776) is related to Case 630 that was reported on 14 August 2021. This cluster is now known as the SKH Gadong Cluster.

       

  • Meanwhile, there is 1 new case today (Case 755) that is related to Case 573 that was reported on 13 August 2021.

     

  • However, there are 24 cases where the source of infection is still being determined.

 

  • The cases in the active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

 

  • Contact tracing for all these new cases is currently undergoing. All identified close contacts are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 test.

 

2.          Meanwhile, 3 cases who are treated at the National Isolation Centre have recovered today bringing the total of recovered cases to remain at 333 cases. This means, a total of 451 active cases have been recorded in Brunei Darussalam.

 

3.          Among the active cases, two are in critical condition requiring respiratory assistance while five other cases are under close monitoring at the National Isolation Centre. All seven of these cases have not received the COVID-19 vaccine injection or have not completed the COVID-19 vaccination.

 

4.          In the past 24 hours, a total of 3,602 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus which brings the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 176,110 tests.

 

5.          Currently, there are several cases that have been confirmed positive but have not been transferred to the National Isolation Centre. The Ministry of Health with the support of the relevant agencies is working to transfer these cases immediately for further treatment and monitoring. For individuals who are still experiencing symptoms of infection, they can take medications to relieve the symptoms in addition to drinking enough water and eating a healthy and balanced diet. However, they are not allowed to leave the house to get the medication and must be isolated from other family members. In the meantime, if their symptoms worsen or they experience shortness of breath, immediately call the Ambulance Emergency Line 991.

 

6.          Following the launch of the Digital Quarantine Order through the BruHealth app on 13 August 2021, the app has been updated digitally. Those who receive notifications via the BruHealth app or short messages (SMS) are included as individuals declared to be in contact by a positive case or anyone detected by the BruHealth app being within ten meters of 30 minutes or more with someone who has been confirmed positive. Any individual who receives a Digital Quarantine Order through the BruHealth app is required to undergo a 14 -day quarantine, while only those who receive a notification to undergo a swab test are required to undergo the test. 7.          Let us all practice zikir, prayers and other practices to seek for Allah Subhanahu Wa Taa’ala’s forgiveness, guidance, taufik and hidayah so that Brunei Darussalam remains protected from the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak.
