A new CDC MMWR report describes an analysis of cases of the B.1.526 variant of the virus that causes COVID-19. The variant, first identified in New York City in November 2020, made up 40% of new infections
there as of early April 2021.Though more information is needed, preliminary evidence does not suggest that B.1.526 is more transmissible, more severe, or more likely to cause infection among people who have been previously infected or fully vaccinated. bit.ly/MMWR5521
