Papua New Guinea has recorded another COVID-19 death bringing the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 13 as of Saturday 27 February, 2021.
A 49-year-old male from the National Capital District is the latest reported COVID-19 death. He was experiencing a cough and shortness of breath when he was admitted, until his death.
The death comes as 20 new cases have been reported in West Sepik, Southern Highlands, Autonomous Region of Bougainville and in the National Capital District.
In the NCD, nine new cases were reported of which five are males and four are females. The youngest of the nine cases is 26 years old and the oldest is 56. Seven of the nine cases were showing symptoms of COVID-19 whilst two cases were asymptomatic at the time of testing.
Eight new cases were reported in West Sepik of which four are male and four are females with ages ranging from 20 to 69 years old. All eight cases were asymptomatic at the time of testing but swab samples returned otherwise. Five out of the eight cases came into contact with previous positive cases.
Two cases were reported in the Southern Highlands province. A 22-year-old-and 45-year-male mine worker from Nipa- Kutubu have tested positive. One of the men recently travelled from NCD.
A 40-year-old male is the latest confirmed positive case in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The man from North Bougainville was showing symptoms of COVID-29 at the time of testing.
The country’s COVID-29 case stands at 1,295 with 13 known deaths. Seventeen provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) have reported cases. The distribution of the cases is as follows:

Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 112,649,371 including 427,644 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll is 2,501,229 of which 10,093 were reported in the last 24 hours.
