Confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have jumped to 541,877 with the registration of 443 new infections over the last 24 hours till Wednesday.
Besides, 16 new casualties were reported from the virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, during the period, bringing the death tally in the country to 8,314.
Of the new deceased, 12 are men and four are women. Among the total dead, 6,293 are men while 2,021 are women.
Currently, there are 44,309 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 633 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 489,254.
The recovery rate also stands at 90.29 per cent.
During the period, 16,612 samples were tested in 212 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,893,654 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 2.67 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 13.92 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.53 per cent.
On Tuesday, the country recorded 13 deaths and 396 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,778 samples with a positivity rate of 2.68 per cent.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases around the world have reached 110,032,576 as of Wednesday morning.
Besides, the virus has so far infected 2,429,707 people globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 22,753,325 patients, 22,655,535 are in mild condition while 97,231 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 84,849,544 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 28,381,220 and 499,991 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,937,320 and third highest fatalities of 155,949 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 240,983 and third highest cases of 9,921,981.
