Reported coronavirus cases in Bangladesh have reached 532,916 with the detection of 515 new infections over the previous 24 hours till Tuesday.

Besides, the deadly pathogen claimed the lives of 14 more people during the period to take the national death toll to 8,055. 

Of the new deceased, 12 are men and two are women. Among the total dead, 6,107 are men while 1,949 are women.

Currently, there are 47,435 active cases in the country.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.

As per the press release, 447 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 477,426. 

The recovery rate also stands at 89.59 per cent.

During the period, 14,401 samples were tested in 200 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,584,788 samples have so far been tested in the country.

The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 3.58 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 14.87 per cent

Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.51 per cent.

On Monday, the country recorded 18 deaths and 602 infections from coronavirus after testing 14,829 samples with a positivity rate of 4.06 per cent.

Meanwhile, global coronavirus cases have crossed 10 crore reaching 100,284,461 as of Tuesday morning.

Besides, the death toll from the virus has jumped to 2,149,460 globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 25,840,555 patients, 25,732,144 are in mild condition while 110,260 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 72,294,446 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 25,861,597 and 431,392 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,677,710 and third highest fatalities of 153,624 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 217,712 and third highest cases of 8,872,964.
