A further 1,071 people tested positive for coronavirus in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours till Sunday, taking the total cases to 522,453.
Besides, the death toll from the virus, officially known as Sars-CoV-2 which is responsible for Covid-19, has reached 7,781 after it killed 25 more people during the period.
Of the new deceased, 17 are men and eight are women. Among the total dead, 5,912 are men while 1,869 are women.
Currently, there are 47,871 active cases in the country.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information through a press release in the afternoon.
As per the press release, 737 more people recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to take total recoveries in the country to 466,801.
The recovery rate also continued to improve standing at 89.35 per cent.
During the period, 12,920 samples were tested in 181 labs across the country. With this, a total of 3,357,319 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 8.29 per cent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 15.56 per cent
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.49 per cent.
On Saturday, the country registered 22 deaths and 692 infections from coronavirus after testing 12,908 samples with a positivity rate of 5.36 per cent.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases around the world have reached 90,078,857 as of Sunday morning.
Besides, the death toll from the virus has surged to 1,934,833 globally, according to data collated by tracking website Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 23,680,388 patients, 23,571,871 are in mild condition while 108,517 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 64,463,636 Covid-19 patients have made recovery worldwide.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 22,699,938 and 381,480 respectively while India has 2nd highest cases of 10,451,346 and third highest fatalities of 151,048 and Brazil has 2nd highest deaths of 202,657 and third highest cases of 8,075,998.
